| AL Gov. Asked To Stop Thursday Execution |

Alabama death row inmate Michael Jeffrey Land has asked Gov. Bob Riley to stop his execution, scheduled for Thursday, because of good deeds he says he has performed while in prison. Land filed a clemency petition Monday with Riley's office. Without a stay or clemency, Land is to be executed at 6 p.m. Thursday at Holman Prison in Atmore for the May 1992 killing of Candace Brown. Land was convicted of kidnapping Brown from her Birmingham home after slicing phone lines and breaking a window to get into the house. She was shot in the back of the head and her body found several days later in a rock quarry on Birmingham's Ruffner Mountain. Read More. |
