| Cop Killer's Sister Says Mental Illness A Factor |

The sister of the Jackson man accused of fatally shooting Jackson policeman Glen Agee said Monday her brother is a diagnosed schizophrenic with a history of trouble. "He's got mental problems," April Smith said of 24-year-old Latwan Smith. "He just don't act himself. He acts crazy at times, then he'll come around and realize what he did." But if Smith has had mental issues, there is no evidence of a previous commitment in Hinds County Chancery Court records. Smith was officially charged with capital murder and escape on Monday. Police say he shot Agee, 31, in the face with the officer's own gun as the men wrestled in shoulder-deep water in a drainage ditch off Mississippi 18 in Raymond on Friday night. Agee and two other JPD officers arrested Smith earlier in the evening following a domestic dispute on Will-O-Wisp Way in south Jackson. Read More. |
