The American company that ran the Penetanguishene superjail for five years is taking heat south of the border after three murderers escaped from one of their Arizona prisons. The desert state's corrections department is laying some of the blame on Management and Training Corp. (MTC), a Utah company that operates more than a dozen prisons in the United States. "My concern is that the staff at this prison may have been lax in doing their job, and that probably created the opportunity so that they could escape," Charles Ryan, director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, told television station KSL in Salt Lake City. Three men escaped from the state prison in Kingman, Friday, July 30 around 9 p.m. It appears they cut through a fence at the medium-security facility and are presumed to have been picked up by a fiancee of one of the men. The incident was not reported to the local sheriff until 10:19 p.m., authorities said. The convicts abducted two truck drivers on an interstate highway outside Kingman and drove east to Flagstaff where the drivers were released. The truck was abandoned the next morning and authorities believe the trio then travelled to Phoenix. One of the escapees was captured Aug. 1 near Rifle, Colo., following a police pursuit.
