With sweat seeping through their T-shirts, 20 inmates picked and loaded watermelons into a truck starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ron Chapman Farms in Keo. Enduring summer heat, the men worked for four hours, all to benefit the hungry throughout Arkansas. For the fifth time this year, the Arkansas Department of Correction has teamed up with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance to collect leftover produce for different food banks in the state, said Michelle Shope, the alliance’s director of food sourcing and logistics.
