BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — About 100 Vermont prison inmates serving sentences at private prisons in Kentucky and Tennessee are going to be getting a lot closer to home. The Department of Corrections has signed a contract to move those inmates to the 350-bed Franklin County Jail and House of Corrections in Greenfield, Mass., about 20 miles south of Brattleboro. Vermont currently houses about 600 inmates at private prisons in Kentucky and Tennessee because the state doesn't have enough prison space. Read More. |
