Indianapolis, Indiana (August 16, 2010) - The Indianapolis Men’s Community Re-entry Center (IMCRC) recently made a huge impact with the Happy Hollow Children’s Camp Incorporated located in Nashville, IN. Through collaborative efforts of the Marion County Sheriff Department and the Indianapolis Fire Department, with Captain Gregg Harris assisting, once again the residents of the IMCRC reached out to provide our community with needed resources and skills in the spirit of serving our surrounding community partners in Nashville, Indiana. The Indianapolis Men’s Community Re-entry Center provided 7 highly skilled dry wall, framers, and carpenters to demolish and refurbish one of Camp Happy Hollow‘s cabins in Nashville Indiana. The residents provided a combined 72 volunteer hours toward this worthwhile project. Jennifer Gant, Development Director of the Camp, expressed her appreciation to the residents.

Acting Superintendent, Leatha Sweatt, along with Correctional Officer, Alfred Green, were on site during the demolition. Ms. Sweatt “thanked Executive Director, Bernard Schrader for the opportunity to make such an important contribution, as most of the residents at the center, really look forward to opportunities to pay it forward, by helping the community”. Ms. Sweatt stated “that some of the residents selected were from the area and never had the opportunity to visit the Camp, and they acknowledge that they too really enjoyed it the experience”.

Ms. Sweatt also expresses gratitude for the support of Sheriff Frank Anderson and the Marion County Sheriff Department for providing transportation to and from Nashville, Indiana. The possibilities are endless when a common vision is shared, understood, and acted upon. Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc. is a private not-for-profit organization accredited by the American Camp Association and part of the United Way of Central Indiana provides educational and outdoor residential camping programs which are designed to increase the understanding of the environment for children, ages 7-14 years. Children from financially disadvantaged families from Indianapolis and surrounding counties, and children with certain special health needs from throughout Indiana participate in a safe, supportive and supervised learning environment.
