NILES — Dakotah Eliason sat motionless Thursday afternoon when a jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his grandfather. Off to his side, members of his family broke into tears — some for Dakotah and others for 69-year-old Jesse Miles, whom Dakotah killed March 7. The case has created a rift in the families of both Dakotah and Miles. The ruling by the jury of 10 women and two men means Dakotah, a former Niles High School student, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
