According to a state audit, Polk County’s sex offender registry has the highest rate of non-compliance in Missouri — 35 percent — but Sheriff Steve Bruce said more offenders are compliant than the audit indicates. State Auditor Susan Montee’s office completed an audit of Missouri’s 114 county-maintained sex offender registries as well as the City of St. Louis’ registry, finding that non-compliance improved from 36 percent in 2002 to 7 percent on March 31, 2010. The audit also reported that 17 of Polk County’s 48 registered sex offenders were non-compliant on that date.
