TAMPA - The Florida Department of Corrections says an inmate who walked away from a Department of Transportation work squad was captured early Friday morning.

Officials said Jerrod Williams was taken into custody at 12:13 a.m. after being on the run for more than seven hours.

Williams was discovered missing from a DOT work yard at 2820 Leslie Road in Tampa around 4:55 p.m. Thursday.

Williams was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2009 for multiple burglary and grand theft charges. He was serving his time at the Hardee Correctional Institute in Bowling Green. Williams was scheduled to be released in July 2015, but that may change should he face new charges relating to his escape.
