| Cell Phones Found By Sniffing Dogs |

In the old days, prison inmates used to tap on their cell bars to communicate. Now they're using cell phones to text each other. In recent years, cell phone contraband has become a major problem in the California prison system. Corrections officials are finding thousands of hidden cell phones inside state prisons, used by inmates to discuss gang activity, arrange drug deals, plot escapes, plan riots and coordinate attacks. In the past year, hundreds of cell phones have been found inside the walls of state prisons, including California Rehabilitation Center in Norco as well as California Institution for Women and California Institution for Men, both in Chino. Since the large proliferation of cell phones in state prisons, corrections officials have begun enlisting the help of dogs to sniff out the growing problem. The program began last year.
