URBANA – One of three people who pleaded guilty in connection with a credit card cloning scheme in Champaign and Urbana earlier this year is headed to prison. Lacal James, 20, who listed an address in the 1700 block of Melrose Valley Court, Urbana, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court to burglary. He admitted that on Feb. 5 he entered the Meijer store at 2500 S. Philo Road in Urbana to use someone else's account information. Judge Harry Clem agreed to recommend James, who received eight years in prison, for the Department of Corrections' boot camp program. He and co-defendants Donnell Edwards, 19, of Savoy, and Julie L. Howard, 20, of Rantoul, who also pleaded guilty to burglary earlier, have all been ordered to repay a total of $20,012 stolen from various banks in the scheme. Edwards and Howard were sentenced to four years of probation each. Read More. |
