The FBI has joined the manhunt for Douglas James Alward, the first inmate to escape from the Sterling Correctional Facility in its 11-year history. A federal arrest warrant was issued Tuesday morning, according to Dave Joly, spokesman for the FBI office in Denver. Joly said an FBI agent is in the Colorado Department of Corrections' emergency center in Colorado Springs, monitoring tips and coordinating with FBI agents in the field. Late Tuesday, Katherine Sanguinetti, spokeswoman for the Colorado DOC, said the department is offering a $15,000 reward for tips leading to Alward's arrest. People with information are asked to call 800-CRIMETV 800-CRIMETV (274-6388). She said the DOC is working with the television program "America's Most Wanted" in an effort to apprehend Alward. Alward, 48, is 6 feet 1 inch, weighs 152 pounds and has blue eyes. Anyone seeing Alward is asked to contact local law enforcement and use extreme caution. Read More. |
