| Budget Shortfall Grabs Attention Of County |

YORKVILLE - After losing a large contract with the state, the Racine County Jail is facing a budget shortfall and Racine County Board members want to know what is being done about it. In March, the Department of Corrections notified Racine County it planned to end a contract to house state inmates at the jail. The decision was made in part because of health care staffing, a DOC spokeswoman said at the time. Since then, the County Board approved giving the sheriff's department $153,750 to help with health care staffing. Now the county's Public Protection and Justice System Committee wants to know the status of the DOC contract and if changes have been implemented, among other questions.
