YUMA COUNTY - Douglas Alward, the escaped convict from Sterling, was found near a cornfield in Yuma County on Wednesday after taking a woman hostage, leaving her tied up while he took a shower. "We got him," Department of Corrections spokesperson Alison Morgan told 9NEWS around noon. Morgan says the inmate was found in a mobile home next to a corn field near the intersection of County Road 42 and County Road B. Morgan says Alward did have what she describes as a hostage when he was taken into custody. Authorities say the female hostage was being held by Alward for about three hours, but was physically unharmed. Sam Reynolds' wife was that hostage. He declined to give us her name. "She turned around and here he was standing in the kitchen. Got a hand gun from me, had it along his side, didn't point it at her. Just put it in his hand and made her get on her knees and tied her up," he said. "Then he made her go in the bathroom, set her in the corner facing away from him, while he took a shower and brushed his teeth. Law enforcement came back and surrounded the house." Read More. |
