WASHBURN -- About 150 angry Clark County residents crammed into, or stood outside listening at the windows and entryways of, the Washburn Town Hall on Wednesday night to learn more about the pending release of a convicted murderer and sex offender into their community Sept. 1. Gary W. Thiede, 40, will live in a rental property southeast of Neillsville at W4780 Blueberry Road, town of Washburn. He served a prison sentence for murdering a 16-year-old boy and sexually assaulting two 14-year-old girls. Thiede was 18 when he committed the crimes and was convicted in 1989 and 1990, said Cherise Nielsen, Thiede's Wisconsin Department of Corrections field supervisor.
