The cause of death remains unknown for a Ninilchik man who died in a Colorado prison last week. Wesley Shandy, 44, was found unresponsive about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 16 in his cell at Hudson Correctional Facility, Hudson, Colo. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance about 2:45 a.m. Colorado time. Shandy was sentenced last year to 16 years in prison for the death of his fiancée, Roxanne Herndon. He had been at the Hudson prison since December 2009. "The only thing we know is he was found unresponsive and died in the ambulance," said Richard Schmitz, a special assistant with the Alaska Department of Corrections. The Greeley, Colo., medical examiner's office did an autopsy last week. Complete results won't be released until toxicology tests have been completed. A forensic autopsy did not show signs of trauma that could have caused Shandy's death, said Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Ward. Shandy had no broken bones or signs of an assault. Read More. |
