| Lewis County triple slaying: 'Significant gap' in corrections records on suspect |

The state Department of Corrections is investigating the actions of a community-corrections officer in Tacoma who was responsible for supervising two violent felons now suspected in last Saturday's triple homicide in a Lewis County logging town. The officer, Seth Skipworth, has twice been issued "memos of concern" for failing to properly document contacts with offenders under his supervision, said Department of Corrections (DOC) spokesman Chad Lewis. "The second one was issued a few days before the shootings," Lewis said. Skipworth has been placed on paid administrative leave. At a minimum, an officer supervising a high-risk violent offender such as John Allen Booth Jr., one of the suspected gunmen in the Lewis County slayings, would be expected to see the offender four times a month. It appears Skipworth fell far below the department's standards, DOC Secretary Eldon Vail said Friday. The DOC's offender database shows a "significant gap" in documented contacts by Skipworth with Booth between April and August, Lewis said. Read more |
