| Inmate death under investigation at Maury Correctional Institution |

MAURY * Prison staff members found inmate Charles Branch (#0042544) unresponsive in his cell at Maury Correctional Institution early Monday morning. Paramedics responded and transported Branch to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:27 a.m. Branch, 40, was serving 8-to-11 years for convictions in Johnston County as a habitual felon and for driving while intoxicated. The State Bureau of Investigation has been on site since Monday, investigating this suspicious death. |
