| MI County Jail Sees Rising Numbers |

COLDWATER (WTVB) - It’s been a busy couple of days at the Branch County jail with 40 people booked in the lockup, including 19 on Thursday. Half of those were 8 men and 8 women who faced a charge of violating probation. From time to time, the courts decide to get caught up on their list of folks who have broken probation rules, but the process hasn’t been implemented to this extent in quite some time. It swelled the jail population this morning to 123 inmates, still below the rated capacity of 139 for the facility. There had been a dropping population at the jail in 2010 compared to recent years with the count this summer dropping below 100 on many days.
