| KS Police Focus Unit On Gang Issues |

SALINA, Kan. (AP) — Salina Police Chief Jim Hill says he has created a new unit in the department to confront an emerging gang problem in the central Kansas city. Hill told the city commission Monday night that the city has had intermittent gang violence since 1991. He says the shooting death in July of a 17-year-old at a city park is believed to be gang-related. Hill says there are two gangs in Salina that are feuding, with about 16 hard-core members.
