APPLETON — Federal law enforcement officials said information they released this week about a crackdown on "violent gang members" incorrectly reported arrests occurred in Appleton. Additionally, a U.S. Marshals Service task force supervisor said all those arrested had outstanding federal warrants, but not all the warrants were related to violent crimes. If someone has an active warrant and is on parole for something like armed robbery or recklessly endangering safety, or they have a history of violent crime they are arrested," supervisor Douglas Bachert told The Post-Crescent. A news release sent Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service to media outlets throughout Wisconsin said federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies had arrested "35 violent gang members and gang member associates throughout the Eastern District of Wisconsin," and a spokesman told a reporter that at least three of the arrests were in Green Bay and two in Appleton.
