OK Prison Work Center May Shut Down

ALTUS, Okla. (AP) - The fate of an inmate work center soon could be determined by the Altus council.

The council will meet Tuesday night to vote on its contract with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections concerning the housing of male inmates at the city's Community Work Center.

The Corrections Department opted to remove female inmates from the work center about a month ago.

City Administrator Michael Nettles told the Lawton Constitution the contract being considered by the council is similar to the one under which Altus has operated for almost a decade.
