Jacob Otte was sentenced to two three-to-five-year terms at the Nebraska Department of Corrections in Dawes County District Court last week. Otte pled guilty to cattle theft in two separate cases earlier this year.

In March, he pled guilty to stealing 10 head of cattle from Gil Nitsch of Chadron. Last month - at what was supposed to be Otte’s sentencing hearing for that charge - he was charged and pled guilty to stealing five head of cattle from Will Isham. All 15 head of cattle were tracked to sales at Wahoo Livestock - Nitsch’s in October 2009 and Isham’s in December 2008. Otte worked for both men at different times, a fact that Dawes County District Judge Brian Silverman found reprehensible.

“You’re the worst kind of thief these people can have,” he told Otte. “They opened up their lives, businesses, ranches to you and you stole from them.”
