The prosecutor said Chu Vue went "over the edge" when he saw the cell phone pictures of his wife having sex with another man. But the former sheriff's deputy had already gone off the tracks by then, Deputy District Attorney Eric Kindall also argued, had already lost his moral core, had already violated his oath to uphold the law. Compromised when he chose to hide out his two fugitive brothers who were wanted for murder, Vue called them in to return the favor, Kindall said, to track down and kill the wife's lover who took the pictures. In his closing argument Tuesday, Kindall told a story of obsession and moral collapse, of mendacity and a once-respected lawman's turn toward the pathetic, in explaining to a Sacramento Superior Court jury how and why he believes Chu Vue arranged the murder of correctional officer Steve Lo.
