WAUPUN — Just one more signature. After 7½ years of wrangling with state officials, Waupun is expected to get the green light to begin marketing Department of Corrections land east of the city. "It's been a long, frustrating process," said Waupun Mayor Jodi Steger. "But I will be glad to see Waupun being able to market this land for future development." In 2009, the Waupun Common Council voted unanimously to secure an option that would allow the city to purchase a 280-acre parcel from the Department of Corrections at a set price of $2 million. The option to purchase should be finalized this week after DOC Secretary Rick Raemisch signs the agreement. The parcel — 145 acres of which can be developed — is valued at just over $2 million.
