Four officers at a private prison in Basile, La. who are accused of having sexual contact with female inmates pleaded not guilty Thursday. Kenneth L. Stenson Sr., Horace J. Edwards, Frank A. Lenoir and Jeffery Collins face charges of malfeasance, or wrongdoing, in an investigation of sexual contact between guards and inmates at South Louisiana Correctional Center in Basile. The men, who were indicted last month, entered formal not guilty pleas at their arraignment on Thursday, said Evangeline Parish District Attorney Brent Coreil. Two of the officers have been fired from the prison and two are on administrative leave while the charges are pending, according to LCS Corrections Services, the company that operates the prison. The investigation began after complaints were made by female inmates from Alabama. Malfeasance carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Coreil said tentative trial dates have been set for September and October. |
