Still No Cause For Inmate's Death

RIDGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - An inmate was killed at Lieber Correctional Institution Saturday, according to the Dorchester County coroner.

The coroner confirmed that 72-year-old Saverio Piazzola, a male inmate, was found dead in his cell around 6 p.m. Saturday. Piazzola was serving 10 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct with a minor and began serving his sentence in August 2005. He was from Richland County.

The State Law Enforcement Division and the South Carolina Department of Corrections are investigating. An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death.
