The shortage of a drug necessary for lethal injections may again delay the execution of death row inmate Kevin Cooper, convicted of killing four people in Chino Hills nearly 30 years ago. The announcement Monday of a shortage of the coma- inducing sodium thiopental, however, is not expected to stop the execution of Albert Greenwood Brown on Thursday evening, which would be the state's first execution in nearly five years. The attorney general said Monday there would be no more executions until more supplies of the drug are available. That helps attorneys for Cooper, who is on death row for the 1983 murders of Doug and Peggy Ryen, their 10-year-old daughter, Jessica, and 11-year-old Christopher Hughes, who was staying the night with the Ryens after attending a barbecue with them.
