| Cities Paying Bills For State Run Prisons |

TAFT, Calif. -- Several local cities are being forced to foot the bill for their state-operated correctional facilities due to the state's budget woes. Community correctional facilities in Taft, Shafter and Delano are owed several months in back funding partially due to the impasse as well as the stalemate last year. "If the state doesn't offer up a budget within the next month or 2 or 3 months, it's going to put a lot of these smaller cities in dire consequences," Taft Police Chief Ken McMinn said. "At that point and time, there could be some furloughs." "We believe that we can effectively operate through the end of December, so we've told the state that December 1st, they could expect to start picking up their prisoners," city councilman Paul Linder added.
