| School Administrator Now Cleaning Prison |

Monique Acevedo, the state Department of Corrections' prisoner No. K08404, has been transferred to what will be her home for the next several years, the Homestead Correctional Institution. The 42-year-old Acevedo had been housed in the South Florida Detention Center in Doral since Sept. 7, when she was transferred from the Monroe County Detention Center. Tuesday, she got her first work assignment at Homestead, as a houseman, tasked with cleaning common areas of the prison, according to Warden Norman Jenkins. The disgraced former Keys school administrator pleaded guilty to six felony charges of stealing $413,012.43 from the Monroe County School District. On Aug. 31, Circuit Court Judge Mark Jones sentenced her to eight years in prison followed by 22 years of probation and full restitution. Read More. |
