WESTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A federal judge has blocked the California execution of Albert Greenwood Brown, which was set for Thursday after reassessing the new injection protocol. U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel said he halted the execution because he didn't have enough time to decide the weighty constitutional issues raised by lawyers for Brown. About two dozen protesters against the death penalty protested in Westwood on Tuesday. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been leading a state-wide publicity battle for the fight against the death penalty. I'm against the death penalty in CA. I'm not opposed to on any moral grounds. I'm oposed to it because of the legnth of time that individuals spend on deathrow prior to being executed! This man has been on death row for 28 years! They won't even be executing the same person who committed this crime! Who among us can say that we are exactly the same person we were 28 year ago and that we would make the same choices today we did then? It's completely rediculous! 28 years ago I was a 19 year old girl still in the army. Today I have been married 27 years and I'm the mother of 3 grown children and the grandmother of 2. Am I still the same person I was 28 years ago? Of course not! If CA is going to have the death penalty then they should use it more expediantly. The cost of having people on deathrow for decades is enoumous and a waste to tax payers. The money spent on housing these people and their appeals could actually be used to rehabilitate non violent offenders. I'm not currently an employee of CDC but was for several years and my husband still is.
