| Transitional Center May Be Built On Prison Grounds |

As the state continues to work out the kinks involved in siting a prison re-entry facility in Fairfield, local officials are touting a possible alternative location on Vacaville prison grounds. "I think it's a good idea," said Solano County Sheriff Gary Stanton late Wednesday, reached by phone at a conference in Sacramento. "I'm advocating that we move to Vacaville." At issue is a $61.5 million grant awarded to Solano in accordance with Assembly Bill 900, which funds construction projects slated to address overcrowding in prisons and jails. According to the grant, a facility site must be designated no later than early March or the county loses its funding and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has to start the process all over.
