Lance Samples went to his drug dealer's home with a purpose: get back a piece of jewelry he lost in a past deal. This time, the 30-year-old Samples brought his mother with him. It didn't help. The encounter in an unincorporated area in New Smyrna Beach, as described in a report by Volusia County sheriff's investigators, escalated to violence early Tuesday when convicted drug dealer Leslie Davis Jr. punched Samples' mother in the eye and chased the mother-son pair out of his house while swinging an ax.
