| Positive TB Tests Scare Pre-Trial Center |

Two cellmates of a prisoner who collapsed and coughed up blood at Wildwood Pre-Trial Facility north of Kenai on Tuesday tested positive in a common tuberculosis screening, prompting required tests for the rest of the jail's almost 130 inmates and optional tests for staff members, according to the Department of Corrections. The ill man, who has a long history of severe respiratory problems, tested negative for tuberculosis in a screening prior to becoming sick Tuesday. Follow-up tests also showed negative results. He is being treated at a hospital in Anchorage. So far, only the two who shared a cell with him have shown positive results in a common skin test for tuberculosis, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections said Wednesday. Read More. |
