| IL Ready To Give Death Penalty To Accused |

At a brief court appearance Monday, Steven Mark Pryer was told he could face execution if he is convicted of the first-degree murder of a rural Alexander woman in August. State’s Attorney Chris Reif said after Pryer’s first appearance in Morgan County Circuit Court that he wants to take some time to make such “an important decision” about seeking the death penalty. “I’m not going to make that decision until I have ample time to review all the evidence we have, sit down and talk to all of the investigators and officers involved and talk in a little more detail with the victim’s family,” Reif said. Pryer was arrested one week ago at his Springfield residence on a Morgan County warrant containing four counts of first-degree murder and a single count of residential burglary in the Aug. 18 fatal shooting of 54-year-old Diann Hoagland. The prosecutor formally filed a charge of home invasion and a fifth count first-degree murder earlier Monday. Read More. |
