| GPS Database Fails, Police Round Up Offenders |

Law enforcement officers hit the streets throughout Fond du Lac County Tuesday evening searching for registered sex offenders after a GPS monitoring database failed. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) notified GPS vendor BI Incorporated of Colorado on Tuesday that the system appeared to be down. BI runs a GPS tracking system that monitors 16,000 offenders nationwide, including about 300 in Wisconsin, according to a DOC press release. After BI confirmed the failure, the DOC implemented an emergency response plan that involved locating and detaining GPS offenders until their movements during the period of failure could be reviewed for possible violations.
