The Department of Corrections cannot say when 516 prisoners evacuated from Christchurch after the September 4 earthquake will return. Inmates from the Christchurch men's and women's prisons were sent to other prisons after the quake because of concerns over water pressure and structural damage. Sarah Raroa, of Christchurch, whose son was on remand on a burglary charge, was sent to Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt, along with 184 other Christchurch prisoners.
