| VA Retains Man Through Civil Commitment |

WAYNESBORO — For more than nine years, child molester Daniel L. Beardsworth, 62, has been behind bars biding his time for release back into society. But after the Virginia Attorney General's Office filed a petition for a civil commitment earlier this year, Judge Humes J. Franklin Jr. ruled on Wednesday that Beardsworth remains a violent sexual predator, denying him a shot at freedom. In 2001, Beardsworth was convicted of forcing two 7-year-old boys to fondle him at the Waynesboro YMCA. One of the victims was celebrating his birthday. A jury sentenced Beardsworth to 10 years in prison on two counts of aggravated sexual battery. It wasn't his first brush with the law. Read More. |
