Twice convicted for sexually assaulting underage girls, Michael Navarro, 26, is among the first wave of state inmates eligible for early release under new a law with goals of rehabilitation and cost savings. John Eckert, executive assistant for the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, said Wednesday that Navarro is scheduled to be released Nov. 12 and has filed paperwork with the state of Maine to live with a parent in Kittery. If Maine "accepts" him, said Eckert, "we have to release him Nov. 12." Navarro was first arrested in August 2006 by Portsmouth police on charges of felonious sexual assault and sale of a controlled drug, as well as a misdemeanor count of prohibited sales of alcohol. He was 22 at the time, and police said he provided a 15-year-old girl with marijuana and alcohol before sexually assaulting her. Read More. |
