| Prison Food Found To Be Costly |

An audit claims the state overpaid thousands of dollars on prison contract food. A prison riot last year prompted the audit after prisoners at the Northpoint Correctional Facility outside Danville blamed the riot on bad food and bad service. The state pays private company, Aramark, to feed prisoners. An audit found that the Department of Corrections paid the company at least one-hundred-thirty thousand more than it should have and paid to feed prisoners who don't exist. Auditors weren't able to determine if Aramark followed approved recipes or met food safety standards. The audit also revealed that Aramark also received more than one hundred thousand dollars worth of inmate grown food for free.
