KINGMAN — A Maricopa County inmate died Wednesday morning while in custody at the privately run prison near Kingman. Eugene Reuben Chicharello, 40, of Fort McDowell, is believed to have died from natural causes at the state prison near Kingman. Chicharello was convicted and sentenced in Maricopa County in July 2007 to 10 years in prison for two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, which occurred in October 2006. He was sent to the Kingman prison Aug. 2, 2007, Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman Barrett Marson said. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to the prison around 11:38 a.m. where Chicharello was found dead in one of the housing units, MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter said. The state prison is run by Management and Training Corporation, one of four privately-run prisons in the state prison system. The prison was the site of highly publicized escape where three inmates escaped with the help of a woman, which led officers on a nationwide manhunt.
