OK Death Row Inmate Wants Spiritual Advisor

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma death row inmate is asking that his execution be delayed while a federal judge decides whether a spiritual adviser can be in the death chamber with him.

Donald Wackerly is scheduled to die Thursday for the 1996 shooting death of Pan Sayakhoummane (sye-ack-hoo-MAHN'-ee) in Sequoyah County.

The request for the delay was filed Tuesday in federal court in Oklahoma City by Wackerly's attorney. A hearing has been scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Stephen Friot.
