The mother and sister of a mentally ill McCandless man convicted of killing his father last year took completely opposite positions Thursday with the judge who was to pronounce his sentence. Christine Huesmann Davis told the court in a letter that she believed her brother was a danger to the community and her family and that he should be "locked in a mental health facility for the duration of his life." But Cathy Parentin, the defendant's mother, asked the court to release her son into her care, so that she could ensure he got the proper treatment for his paranoid schizophrenia and remained on his medication. In the end, Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning ordered Eric Huesmann, 43, to serve six to 20 years in prison. Read More. |
