Saying more needs to be done to restrict child molesters, Tulare County is taking an unusual step -- banning convicted pedophiles from handing out candy on Halloween. But some question whether the ordinance was designed to protect children or to promote the political career of the county supervisor who proposed it. The ordinance, approved two weeks ago, bars sex offenders who victimized children from answering their door to trick-or-treaters. They also can't display decorations or turn on the outside lights from 5 p.m. to midnight on Halloween. The ban even caught the attention of "Saturday Night Live," which joked in a recent segment that "kids are a little bummed out, because you know those guys have the best candy." Read More. |
