| New Law Releases WI Inmates Early |

One year ago, Michelle Warmington was in prison, looking at another five months for breaking probation rules after convictions of disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. She got out of prison 71 days early, one of the first inmates released to Racine County under a new state law. Within a week, she was back in jail. The same thing happened in April. Eight days after her release, she was back. Both times, the Sheriff's Department said, she was taken into custody for violating the conditions of her release. Warmington was booked into the jail again on Sept. 7 for a 10-day stay. She has now served her entire sentence. Warmington is one of 15 people released to Racine County and more than 200 people released statewide since the new law, called Act 28, took effect late last year. Read More. |
