LUCEDALE — A former George County High School teacher will spend the next eight years in prison after being sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Kathy Jackson on Monday. Andrew Brownell Brantley, 45, pleaded guilty in July to eight counts of sexual battery by a person in a position of trust, four counts of touching a child for lustful purposes and two counts of exploitation of a child. He was arrested in September 2009. About 20 George County residents, including Lucedale Mayor Doug Lee, appeared in court in an apparent show of support for Brantley and his family. Brantley's father is a former Lucedale mayor. The victim's father also was present and sought to address the court but Jackson refused to hear from Brantley supporters or the victim's family.
