7 Min. Escape Leads To More Time In Prison

A Denver man’s seven minutes of freedom after he escaped from the Pitkin County Courthouse in July will likely land him an additional three years in state prison.

Warren Carter was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday but a last-minute negotiation between the prosecutor and his public defender ended in a plea deal that will have the defendant pleading guilty to class-three felony escape.

Carter, 45, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will likely be sentenced to three years for the escape charge. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 1 when it’s anticipated he will enter his plea.
