| WA Plans To Cut DOC Employees |

The latest round of state budget cuts will take dozens of state corrections officers off the job. "We are planning to take correctional officers out of the kitchens in medium security facilities, for example," says Eldon Vail, the Secretary of the Department of Corrections. Vail says that doesn't mean there will be no supervision in the kitchens. "There's going to be department of corrections staff there, with good correctional training, and there's going to be a sergeant there," but then he adds, "But that is not without risk." The department has already cut 1,200 positions. The latest across the board cuts, ordered by Governor Chris Gregoire this fall took another $53 million out of the DOC's budget. Read More. |
