SAGINAW (WJRT) -- (10/20/10) -- Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel wants the Department of Corrections to do a better job choosing which inmates to release after serving a minimum prison sentence. This comes after another parolee is put back in jail just months after being released from prison. The Department of Corrections says its prisoner re-entry program is working, but don't tell that to Federspiel. "For the Department of Corrections to allow these prisoners to be released arbitrarily at their earliest release dates is ridiculous." Federspiel has a fresh example to back up that viewpoint. Jason Shangle, 32, of Midland, had 10 years remaining on his sentence for home invasion, but the DOC released him from prison in April. Shangle is already back in jail, accused of stealing a rifle, money and other items belonging to acquaintances who tried to help him get his life back on track. Read More. |
