Food Discount Tempted Man To Impersonate Police

A 26-year-old Joliet man from the 1900 block of Heather Lane was in the Will County Adult Detention Facility today for allegedly falsely identifying himself as a law enforcement officer to get a discount on a hamburger.

Joliet Deputy Police Chief Mike Trafton said Andrew P. Berkos supported his request at the McDonald’s restaurant, 2885 Plainfield Road, by displaying “a piece of paper with a Department of Defense seal.”

Employees didn’t believe him and called police, Trafton said.

Berkos, charged with false personation of police, a misdemeanor, was being held in lieu of $7,000 bail.
